    Application of PET RESIN YS-C01

PET RESIN YS-C01 is a bottle-grade polyethylene terephthalate copolymer specified for downstream conversion routes in carbonated soft drink packaging, hot-fill beverages, aseptic cold-fill water, transparent sheet thermoforming, edible oil containers, and wide-mouth cosmetic/pharmacy jars. General-purpose extrusion coating, fibre spinning, strapping, and engineering compounding are outside the grade scope. Each application block below records the regulatory instrument, feed ratio, processing route, and finished article class. Converter-side finished-article compliance remains jurisdiction-specific and depends on surface-to-volume ratio, fill temperature, shelf life, and closure system.

Regulatory limits most frequently invoked across these process routes and markets are summarized below.

Carbonated soft drink conversion from YS-C01 begins with the resin fed as 100 wt% virgin pellet or as a dry-blend with bottle-to-bottle rPET at 10–25 wt%, the upper limit being governed by national food-contact approval for the recycled fraction under EU Regulation (EC) No 282/2008 or FDA letter of no objection rather than by intrinsic viscosity capacity. In two-stage injection stretch blow molding, the pellet is dried in a desiccant dryer at 160–170 °C for 4–6 h to a residual moisture level below 50 ppm; a dryer dew point above −30 °C extends drying time and leaves hydrolytic degradation products that can reduce preform intrinsic viscosity by 0.02–0.04 dL/g. Injection is performed on a reciprocating-screw machine with barrel temperatures of 270–285 °C and hot runner temperature of 280–285 °C; at these settings melt residence time is kept under 4 min because acetaldehyde reformation accelerates sharply and preform acetaldehyde can exceed 5 ppm, producing a sweet off-taste in carbonated soft drink at 4.0 gas volumes. Cavity-to-cavity fill imbalance above ±0.5 mm in preform length on a 48-cavity tool indicates nozzle or hot runner temperature offset rather than pellet IV variation. Preforms are reheated to 95–110 °C and stretched at axial ratios of 2.5–3.0 and hoop ratios of 3.8–4.2. Final blow pressure of 38–40 bar and mold temperature of 8–12 °C are used to freeze orientation and maintain sidewall crystallinity at 20–25%. Compliance for U.S. and EU markets rests on FDA 21 CFR 177.1630 and Regulation (EU) No 10/2011 Annex I, with the EU overall migration limit of 10 mg/dm² and specific migration limits for terephthalic acid at 7.5 mg/kg and ethylene glycol at 30 mg/kg. Terminal converted articles include ISBT PCO 1881 and PCO 1810 finish bottles from 250 mL to 3 L.

What governs paneling resistance in hot-fill container sidewalls?

In hot-fill PET containers, paneling failure is controlled by thermal crystallinity developed during heat-set blow molding, not by post-mold annealing alone. The converter runs YS-C01 at 100 wt% with a colorant masterbatch level of 0.5–1.5 wt%; oxygen scavengers are excluded because they are not required for the claimed shelf life and they introduce additional crystallinity changes. The process conflict is the narrow heat-set mold window of 135–160 °C. Below 130 °C, sidewall crystallinity remains near amorphous levels and the container shows paneling when filled at 85–95 °C and cooled under vacuum closure. Above 170 °C, the preform surface skin can stick to stainless steel blow mold surfaces, increasing cycle time and requiring frequent mold release treatment. Sidewall crystallinity is held at 30–35%, and post-fill volume shrinkage after a 85 °C water bath for 30 min is specified at ≤1.0%. Preform molding for hot-fill containers uses barrel temperatures of 275–285 °C, preform surface temperatures of 100–115 °C, axial stretch ratios near 2.8, and hoop stretch ratios of 3.8–4.0. Blow air is delivered at 9–12 bar preblow and 38–40 bar final blow. Regulatory documentation includes FDA 21 CFR 177.1630 and Regulation (EU) No 10/2011, with overall migration 10 mg/dm²; for China, GB 4806.6-2016 applies. Terminal hot-fill article types include 200–500 mL single-serve juice bottles and 750 mL–2 L multi-serve tea and sports drink containers with 38 mm or 43 mm neck finishes.

Aseptic cold-fill water lines running lightweight bottle concepts with YS-C01 are constrained less by crystallinity than by acetaldehyde generation, preform ovality, and stress-crack resistance in sidewalls below 0.20 mm. The formulation at the hopper is 100 wt% YS-C01; an external lubricant or slip masterbatch may be introduced at 0.05–0.2 wt% to reduce scuffing on high-speed air conveyors. Drying uses 160–170 °C desiccant conditions with dew point −40 °C for 4–6 h, because residual moisture above 50 ppm lowers intrinsic viscosity and reduces burst strength in ultra-lightweight bottles. Injection barrel temperatures are set at 270–280 °C, the lower end of the PET bottle resin window, to keep preform acetaldehyde below 2 ppm for still water and sensitive mineral water brands. Stretch blow molding reheats preforms to 100–110 °C; the axial stretch ratio reaches 3.0 and hoop stretch ratio reaches 4.2, with final blow pressure at 38–40 bar. Mold temperature is maintained at 8–12 °C to limit sidewall crystallinity to 20–25%. Terminal articles include still water bottles from 200 mL to 5 L with 26/22 mm lightweight neck finishes. Compliance under U.S. law is supported by FDA 21 CFR 177.1630; EU compliance is evaluated under Regulation (EU) No 10/2011. For municipal bottled water packaging sold in North America, NSF/ANSI 61 may be required by the buyer. Top-load retention after palletizing is checked under ASTM D2659-16; environmental stress crack resistance of the filled bottle is assessed by the converter using a caustic stress crack test at 60 °C and 0.2% NaOH where specified.

When flat-die sheet extrusion retains intrinsic viscosity through closed-loop regrind streams

During closed-loop APET sheet extrusion, YS-C01 is processed with a feed formulation that changes from 100 wt% virgin pellet at startup to a steady-state blend containing 30–50 wt% in-house regrind. Regrind fraction above 50 wt% is avoided because repeated extrusion thermal history reduces intrinsic viscosity and increases edge trim crystallization. All feedstock, including ground regrind, is dried at 160–170 °C for 4–6 h to below 50 ppm moisture; regrind stored in unheated silos at ambient relative humidity above 60% can carry absorbed surface moisture that raises dryer load and produces sheet edge haze. The sheet line uses a single-screw extruder with L/D ratio 30:1–36:1, barrier screw, melt filtration at 60–100 µm, and gear pump. Cylinder temperatures are set at 265–280 °C, with the flat die maintained 5–10 °C above final melt temperature to compensate for die lip heat loss. The melt is cast onto a three-roll polishing stack with roll temperatures of 30–60 °C; roll temperatures above 70 °C initiate spherulitic crystallization and reduce sheet clarity. Thermoforming is performed on plug-assisted pressure formers at sheet surface temperatures of 110–140 °C. Mold temperature is kept at 20–30 °C to produce amorphous trays and clamshells. Terminal converted articles include hinged clamshells, produce punnets, sandwich wedges, deli trays, and cold-fill cup inserts. Food-contact compliance is documented under FDA 21 CFR 177.1630 and Regulation (EU) No 10/2011, with overall migration testing by EN 1186 series and haze measured under ASTM D1003. The presence of EVOH barrier regrind is incompatible because it alters melt rheology and produces visible delamination in the sheet.

Oxygen ingress accelerates oxidative rancidity in edible oil bottles

Edible oil bottles made from YS-C01 are converted at 100 wt% with an optional oxygen scavenger or UV barrier masterbatch at 0.5–2.0 wt% for oils with high polyunsaturated fatty acid content. The preform weight is higher than water bottles, typically 40–60 g per 1 L, because the bottle wall must withstand drop impact and stacking loads without excessive flexural cracking. Drying conditions remain 160–170 °C for 4–6 h to below 50 ppm moisture. Preform injection uses barrel temperatures of 275–285 °C and injection pressure of 900–1,200 bar, with extended hold time to eliminate sink marks in the thick gate area. Reheat stretch blow molding is performed at preform surface temperatures of 100–110 °C. The axial stretch ratio is reduced to 2.2–2.5 and hoop stretch to 3.5–3.8 to minimize stress whitening in the base and shoulder radii. Mold temperature is set at 10–15 °C. Drop impact testing follows ASTM D2463-15, with a minimum failure height of 1.2 m at room temperature after water fill, depending on bottle size. Oxygen transmission through the package is measured under ASTM F1307 or equivalent; no universal regulatory limit exists for dissolved oxygen in edible oil, so the converter must validate against the buyer-specific shelf-life specification. Compliance for food contact uses FDA 21 CFR 177.1630 and Regulation (EU) No 10/2011; terminal articles include 500 mL–5 L edible oil bottles with 29/25 or 38 mm finishes and condiment bottles.

Wide-mouth jar blow molding: neck finish crystallinity and thread deformation thresholds

For wide-mouth cosmetic, supplement, and pharmacy containers, YS-C01 is converted at 100 wt%, with UV absorber masterbatch at 0.1–0.3 wt% where light-sensitive actives are packaged. The injection molding step requires barrel temperatures of 275–285 °C and targeted cooling of the neck finish thread splits to below 10 °C to prevent spherulitic crystallization in the injection-molded thread area. If the neck finish temperature during reheat blow molding rises above 70 °C, thread ovality in 38 mm neck finishes can exceed 0.2 mm, producing cap leakage under torque application. The preform body is conditioned to 100–115 °C, then stretch blow molded at axial ratio near 2.5 and hoop ratio 3.5–4.0. Blow mold temperature is held at 10–15 °C, producing sidewall crystallinity of 23–27%. Terminal articles include 50 mL–1 L wide-mouth jars, packer bottles, and pharmacy vials with 38 mm to 120 mm neck finishes. Documentation for food and supplement contact is based on FDA 21 CFR 177.1630 and for EU cosmetic packaging on Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009. Pharmaceutical plastic packaging in the U.S. is evaluated under USP <661.1>. Published data for YS-C01 in primary pharmaceutical closure systems is limited; converters should conduct extractables and seal-integrity qualification on pilot tooling according to Ph. Eur. 3.2.2 if the jar is intended for dispensing pharmacy use.
